Education Before Basketball was founded in 2010 by Kenneth Thompson. Taking his love of the game and his desire to make a difference in his community, Kenneth formed Education Before Basketball, a mentoring and basketball program to guide young people in the journey to adulthood assisting them in avoiding the pitfalls of their community and environment.
The mission of The Gussie Wortham Foundation’s pilot program Education Before Basketball is to improve life skills, through mentoring, improve academic performance through tutoring, improve athletic performance through teaching fundamentals and healthier eating habits, foster teamwork through competition, reduce the incidence of behavioral problems by providing positive recreational, educational and social opportunities to our youth. We also promote parental involvement in our program, which is geared to assist youth in cities and towns throughout the country.
