B-Ball Classic History

The Gussie Wortham B-Ball Classic began in 2004 with 8 teams by the foundation's founder Kenneth Thompson. It began to raise awareness of domestic violence and distribute proceeds to programs and other organizations making similar contributions to the community.The Gussie Wortham through proceeds of the B-Ball Classic have provided "Back to School Supply" and "Turkey's for the Holidays" giveaways. In addition, coat drives, sock drives and canned food drives have also been a part of our  donations. The B-Ball Classic has grown over the past 13 years going from 80 particpants to over 1,000 participants. We have recently started 2 new initiatives thanks to contributions from variuos communities starting with our Adopt-A-Classroom initiatives have expanded from Connecticut, South Carolina, to the  Bahamas and our recruiting sercvices for student athletes and their families 2359 Counsulting. In such a short period of time we have made great progress in getting student athletes into various colleges. 


Our gracious Sponsors of the B-Ball Classic have also assisted the foundation in making contributions to such orgranizations as My Sister's Place, Interval House, The American Cancer Society,The MS Society,Thirman Milner School and Myrtle Beach Elementary. The foundation's programs The Gussie Wortham Mentor Program and  Education Before Basketball has also benefited from community and local businesses and their generous donations.
